I've had several people ask me what my "Grounding Cream" is. I hope this blog post will help answer that question.
For those of you who are familiar with Ayurvedic Doshas, I am a Pita/Vata mix. Or, put simply, I am a mix of two elements, Fire (Pita) and Air (Vata). I formulated this cream for myself originally to help keep me grounded and centred when my Vata half wants me to float into the clouds.
My Grounding Cream is nice and light, and does not leave a greasy feeling which makes it easy to apply to the hands, neck and chest area. The magic of Essential Oils comes mainly through inhalation, so to get the full benefit of any of my products containing Essential Oils, you want to make sure you can smell them! Many people will add Essential Oils to a roller bottle, diluted in a carrier oil, and then they rub this on their neck and chest to get the benefits. This way definitely works, but can be quite greasy. I like using a cream the same way because it is less greasy, and you do not have to worry about getting oil on your clothes. I mostly use this cream as a hand cream and on my neck and chest, to get the olfactory benefits, but it can be also be used as a full body cream. I would not use it on the face as the dilution of Essential Oils in this particular cream is too high to be safely used on the face.
The Essential Oils I have chosen for this cream are all known for their grounding, centring, and balancing properties. And they just so happen to all be amazing for skin nourishment and regeneration as well!
Sandalwood (Santalum album) is a grounding oil and a meditation aid. It helps bring you back to the here and now, and helps calm an over active mind. It is also used to balance and re-align body, mind and spirit, reconnecting you with your own sense of being.
Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin) is one of the most grounding and balancing oils out there. It helps you tap right into the healing powers of the earth. It calms, as well as arouses and uplifts. It helps you come back into touch with your body and your sensuality.
Cedarwood (Cedrus atlantica) grounds through affirming and clarifying our focus, which gives us the strength and determination we need to power through situations.
Rosewood (Aniba roseodora) is a balancing oil. It can help bridge the gap between body and spirit.
Vetiver (Vetiveria zizanioides) is another oil that helps ground by bringing us closer to the energies of the earth. It centres and reconnects us, filling us with a sense of strength and belonging that can only come from the earth.
So there you have it, Grounding Cream. It is one of my favourites!
